i was reading a thread about a transmission problem. and it sad that the problem was the transmission oil filter because it wasent making pressure and it had an internal leak. it just so happens that this weekend i am going to do my

trans oil change and i bought a purolator oil filter, my question is. . is this a good

quality filter?

I have not seen a Purolator trans filter (p/n P1262) for the 48RE, but the pics on their website look exactly like the stock filter.

The stock filter has an enclosed body and a small pickup on the bottom and a gasketed round hole that connects to the VB.

Purolator makes very good engine oil and air filters, so your trans filter is probably fine too. I use their PureONE oil filters on the Durango, boat and Toyota and am very pleased with their quality.

When you re-install, use an inch-pound torque wrench. The spec is 35 in-lbs for the two Torx fasteners that attach the filter to the VB.

You will need approx 6 to 7 quarts of AFT+4 if you drain immediately after engine shutdown.

Don't forget to remove the donut shaped magnet in the bottom of the pan and clean it off and also clean the bottom of the pan with brake cleaner.

Torque on the pan bolts is approx 10 ft-lbs.

I read that post and it only makes sense if the fluid level was too low, then the inlet in the VB would be above the fluid level.
