Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) What's "normal" fuel pressure???

My 2000 automatic transmission runs hot when driving in the city at low speeds. The temperature will climb up to about 220. When backing to park my 5th wheel the transmission really gets hot. It can get up to 260, and could go higher if I did not try to stop and let it cool, if possible.



Low air flow seems to be the problem. I've used a hose to wash the fins of the cooler, but did not achieve any improvement.



What about putting in a switch which will give my manual control of the electric fan in front of the radiator?I recognize that this fan is to keep the engine cool, but not too cool.
 
IMO, the switch would work, I wouldn't be to conserned about the engine being too cool, the thermostat won't open until the engine itself reaches the temperature of the t-stat. Therefore the fan runing is just cooling the radiator (which helps when your not moving) and not the engine persay.

I have two (2) electric fans on mine, of course I removed the stock one so they'd fit. Why Wayne?



CW, I've seen guys install a small electric fan over the trans cooler, between the grill and the cooler.

My A/T temp never gets off the 140 mark except for a small climb when I am parking my 5th wheel... or climbing a pass.















2001 QC, A/T, pillar gauges, camper/tow package, 4:10 gears

Line X liner, Smitty nerf bars. Otherwise stock... upgrading trans. with DTT this month.

Where is your sender located? If in the hot line, you are sure to see temps over 140. My trans runs 150-180 normal driving... . up to 260 towing up steep winding hills at a low rate of speed. My sender is in the hot line, I change trans fluids every 6000 miles.
 
another option would be to add further cooling surface, even with its own electric fan - Baja runner style. Perma Cool makes a transmission cooler designed to fit where the OEM cooler sits - but I put mine in series and slung under the the A/C condensor, anchored to the frame. To my eye there's still space behind it so that the version with 2 puller fans could have been used. Its high enough to be protected from road debris, yet still gets airflow.

It appears he already has a fan on the truck.

Can't find a thin fan

I to would like to put a thin fan on the front of the trans cooler, but I haven't found a fan that is thin enough to fit between the grill and the cooler, it needs to be about 1. 25" at the motor
and be about 7/8" at the outer edge, for a 8" fan.



Has anyone found a weatherproof fan like this?



I did see some 12v fans about the right size at radio shack meant for cooling computers, but I question if they will survive the environment out in front of the truck, with rain and salt spray during the winter. I guess I could try to remember to remove it for the winter. :rolleyes:
