Just got my 99 3500 5sp out of the shop. D/C just put a new transmission in the truck at 52000 mile . When I picked. up my truck the service Rep told me not to run any more AMSOIL in the transmission. First of all don't know how they knew. Wonder why and how they knew? But the transmission was no charge:) A stiff shifter is not to hard to live with:D:p

If you ran the correct Amsoil, it is Blue. The Castrol is usally CRAP colored when it comes out, from my exprience. ;)

Those 5 gears fail every day with the factory fill, drain it at your first chance and get the Series 2000 75-90 back in if you want it to live. A set of FAST COOLERS is a good idea also.

What exactly failed and what was their reasoning?

Many dealers are savy on the correct lubricant for the transmission. Yours caught on and luckily warrantied your transmission. Castrol Syntorq is the stuff to use and they know it.

As far as the color of the oil goes... . color does not usually mean jack.

Glad you got a new transmission and Im not too surprised the Amsoil killed the transmission. Its not the right stuff.

Less than 1000miles ago they changed the frt seal Clutch and throwout bearing, before that the rear seal and drive shaft and carrier bearing, before that 2 pinon seals and 1 yoke

Clem,

""Less than 1000miles ago they changed the frt seal Clutch and throwout bearing, before that the rear seal and drive shaft and carrier bearing, before that 2 pinon seals and 1 yoke""

It sounds like there was bad things going on there from the factory, from the get go.

Oil in the transmission does not ruin driveshafts and carrier bearings!!

I had a bad third gear and front seal from the factory. The seal was mashed when they installed it at NV. The gear was just wrong, it shifted funny fromt the first day I bough it.

Did you have the Amsoil in the transmission for the 52,000 miles?

Was the Amsoil in the rear axle as well with the leaking pinion seals or was that a factory defect too?

I know oil does not ruin drive shafts, but why complane, the parts are free. You start telling the service people what to do and they get on happy, then you get unhappyOo. Thanks for the come back

No problem Clem!

Most of us have given up on Dodge mechanics.

Keep it changed often, and with that big Avion, I would suggest a set of coolers at least. Help that lube live.

Eventually, you will be on your own, make sure they get it right before that happens.
