Looking to replace my stock trans pan who has the best prices? My old stand by has always been Geno's was looking the the PML pan

I added the PML pan along with a temp gauge and have been happy with the results. The PML pan is not painted like the more expensive models and you have to drill and tap the pan for the temp guage pick up. This is a simple job and should be done before mounting the pan. If your not adding a gauge right away, you should still tap the pan and plug it so that it will be ready for adding the quage at a later date.

If you are looking for an aftermarket pan I would at the very least get the double deep Mag Hytec instead of the standard depth pan.

The double deep adds 4 quarts capicity to your system while the other pans will add 2 quarts of ATF over the factory pan volume. I feel that the big advantage to the aftermarket pans are that they are ribbed aluminum that will transfers heat quicker than the factory pan. The black smooth finish on the mag-hytec pans looks nice but will not transfer heat as well as an unfinished casting.

I know that with my setup the temp gauge will not move off the 100 degree peg while moving down the highway. During stop and go or while pulling in the summer is when the temp starts to go up and will max out at about 130.

I don't know what value the 2 additional quarts will give you with the double deep pans. It would seem to me that as soon as the additional two quarts get to operating temp they will be of little help in cooling the fluid. The over all larger pan may act as a better heat sink do to the greater surface area but then you have to factor in the painted surface verses the raw surface.

IMHO I would suggest that any after market pan with a temp gauge will help us max the life of our auto transmissions.

I have the deep Mag Hytec pan with a Isspro Temp and it works great. It hardly moves off of 100 when running even withthe camper on. Yesterday in stop and go traffic it actually got to 120... I was amazed to see the needle move. . at least I know my Isspro is working. As for heat transfer paint no paint. . it is a wash IMHO. The surface area and amount of fluid moving around, i really don't think you could even begin to measure the difference! While your doing this swap don't forget to do a service. JUST a reminder. I also cahnged out my Diff cover and made the switch to SYN Gear Oil. I feel happier and I suppose there are measured studies out there that say it was a good thing or not! Who knows? Do what you feel is good for you is the bottom line. BTW I installed a BD TC and VB when I changed out the pan... I feel more comfortable... yet there are guys out there with 100k's mile and never done anything except change filters and fluid... again Who knows?

After you drill and tap the pan what are you guys using as a plug. I have a few 1/8 npt brass plugs in my shop will that work or will the brass be an issue with the aluminum pan

I would recommend putting the sensor in the hot line. The temps in the pan, IMO, are already cooled and inaccurate. If you read the temp coming right from the TC you know what the hottest point of your transmission is. Just my $. 02

The pan arrived today and I drilled and tapped a 1/8 NPT port and plugged it with a brass NPT plug. Hope that will do, wasn't sure about using brass.

EGaskamp- wouldn't the fluid coming out of the TC be cooler than the fluid in the transmission pan since it has just gone through the radiator and the transmission cooler? I would think that fluid in the pan is at the temperature that the transmission is feeling. Please let me know if I am wrong as I am ordering the mag hytec now and planning on putting the sensor in the pan. Also, wouldn't it stand to reason that more transmission fluid in the system is going to better disperse heat and hold suspended particles?
