Guys, I need some help. At work we are replacing the transmission on one of our service trucks, 98 3500 24V. The problem is that the tail/OD housing has the speed sensor on the bottom but it also has the hole for the mechanical sensor that the 12V have. I spoke to a friend that use to work at a transmission shop, he said that a few transmissions from the factory came out this way due to the change over between the 12V and the 24V but a plug was install on the 24V set up. Does any one know where I can get this plug, my local dealers have no clue of what I'm talking about. I will try to post a picture. Thank You in advance.

You should be able to use a freeze plug to plug the large speedo hole in the housing. Just measure the diameter of the hole and get the appropriate size. I don't recall the size just now. Another way is to go by local trans shop, ask for speedo driven gear housing and hold down off of a 904 or 727 core. Remove the gear, tap the hole 1/8" pipe, plug with allen head plug, install with new o-ring. Hope this helps.

James, Thank You for responding. We found an expandable plug from a transit bus transmission that fits perfectly. I'm also going to track down a freeze plug for it and install it in later since we have to get the truck on the road, have fallen behind on service calls. Pablo
