I've had the following install on this truck (95 4x4 auto) for over 2 weeks, #10 fuel plate, 3k gsk, shift kit for the transmission. Truck has 136k miles and I'm the second owner. I haven't hot rodded it or pulled anything with it. In stock form the truck pulled a 5th wheel camper by the previous owner but the transmission shifted fine and has been ok since the upgrades... Until today.

I exited off the interstate and stopped at the traffic signal. As I entered onto the main road I noticed the truck was not shifting out of low. I came to another light and stopped and when it went green I proceeded on again it would not shift out of low, manually either. I went about 2/3 throttle and I could feel it shift into 2nd but not further. After the next light it did the same but this time I was able to get it to go into drive then lock up.

Fortunately I was almost home and didn't have to go throgh this except one more time.

I wouldn't have put this here but my '02 is suppose to be going to the shop to have the vp44 replaced and now this thing has started acting up (my only 2 vehicles). Anyone familiar with this type problem please respond. I need to know what it will take to fix it or if I need to just buck up and by a new transmission and converter.

By the way the upgrades were done by a Dodge mechanic. This truck is also going to be used to plow snow however it hasn't been used to do that yet.

Any help greatly appreciated.

You may have a governor problem. The 47RH uses a fly weight governor. The way to check it is to put a pressure gauge on the governor port. The pressure reading should correspond to the speed. That is stopped should read 0 PSI, 10 MPH - 10 PSI, etc. The pressure may be off a little bit from being exactly a match, but it should increase in step with speed. If a Transgo shift kit was used you may have worse problems than that.

Thanks Joe. I did some further searching and called Mr. Kondolay who told me the samething as well as stuck gov/throttle valve. Strange thing is an hour later I drove it and it worked fine as well as today. I probably panicked for no reason.

I think the perfect truck would be a 12 valver with a 6 speed. If it wasn't for snow plowing I wouldn't own a auto.

Again, thanks.

If the little valve is worn it will do it some more until it stays the way. Hopefully, it was just stuck and not worn. The part is only about $6, but it is a major PITA to replace.
