2001 automatic 1st. gear problem.

Sometimes goes to 3000rpm before it engages.

Intermittent.

90,000 mi. - last transmission fluid change approx 30,000 mi. ago.

Help!

If it doesn't go into 2nd gear before getting that high of RPM, it could be either the governor pressure sensor and/or the governor pressure solenoid. Had to do that on my stock transmission. ~$100/ea from the dealer.

We need more info to be helpful.

Are you talking about the first time with a cold transmission?

Are you talking about the first shift( to second gear)?

Idle in neutral for 30 secs to fill the TC back up. Stock transmission does not circulate in Park. SNOKING

Yes, it clearly sounds like drainback. I have found in the winter months, running an additional 1/2 quart stops that issue. The fluid is cold and you pump it out of the pan faster than it runs back in.

Add 1/2 quart of ATF and see what happens. This has been the fix for me everytime.
