My dad is traveling with me and he has just bought a 96 2wd automatic 2 weeks ago. First time pulling a camper with it and having troubles. On hills RPM's are stopping at 2000 and bouncing back and forth to 1800 while down shifting. Can anyone help with some possible info. He says it just won't go anymore. Just tops out at those RPM's. We are half way on vacation and had to stop for the night. Are going to try calling some people off the companion guide in the morning. Anyone have suggestions?

Where are you?

It sounds like a fuel starvation type problem. How old is the fuel filter? If you pump the button on the fuel pump will the overflow valve "sing"? How many miles on the engine? It is possible, but improbable, that the fuel pump is going south.

Its a 96 with 130,XXX. We just replaced the fuel filter this morning. After further investigation, and some talking with some of my buddies, and found the brake pedal switch was out of adjustment. It was causing the torque converter to disengage. I was tired from driving and it was midnight when I wrote discription, so I left a little info out. The rpms would go higher with overdrive button pushed, about 2500 to 2700. Also learned engine governs out at that rpms.

Thanks for the response. We made it to our destination today, saturday.
