For those of you that read my post in the 24v forum and those of you who havent, I am having some major problems with my transmission and we cannot figure out what's causing it. Well first, we replaced my Pro Torque Converter with a new one b/c my truck was shuddering or shaking really bad when it locked up which I had a warranty still on that TC. Well after we replaced it, still did the same thing with a brand new TC in it. So from there my local transmission shop thought it must be in the clutches or something internal so they completely rebuilt the transmission and put it back in hoping that it was goin to fix it but no such luck. Well after that they checked all the pressures and everything checked out to be in spec, so then we thought maybe that I was given a bad TC so once again we replaced it. Well I picked the truck up from the shop this past Thursday night and I pretty well babied the truck for about a 100 miles to kinda let everything break in with alot of stop and go driving not taking the truck up past 20-25 lbs of boost. Well when it got it back from the shop I installed a Pressure Loc on it which seemed to do its job, well after I thought it had been broke in enough I decided to see what it was gonna do, and wouldnt you guess... ... still shuddering or slipping when you get on it while in lock up. And this is without either of my boxes on. So now I have no clue what to do, and after all that my pocket book got pretty thin. If anyone has any clues to what might be goin on please let me know ASAP. Thanks!!

Sorry to hear that you are still having problems. First thing I would do is to take off the pressure-lock. It could be masking a more serious problem or making it seem like the problem is another part of the transmission. Then I would get back to the basics, pressures and sequencing. Is there any way you could try another VB? Even a stock VB with the pressure turned up as far as possible should be OK for troubleshooting. New TC and new everything else should be working fine, so I would go after the VB next. I am assuming from your post that the lockup is working OK until you get heavy on the throttle, is that correct?

If so I would think that the electronic portion of the lockup is working correctly. I would also say that the kickdown cable is fine if it is not trying to stay unlocked, shuddering to me would mean that it is slipping and not trying to unlock. This just about sums up all I know about how our trannies work. Hope this helps.

Yes, you are correct. It locks up just fine, it's just not holding when I get on it. I'll take my pressure loc off tonight and see what it does then. Thanks!!

Thanks guys, I re-adjusted my pressure loc and it seems to be doin better but I know it's still not right. I'm gonna run a little more and see if it keeps doin it. Thanks again.

I'm no rocket scientist, but just my 2 cents -

Is the transfer case OK, bad/weak input/output bearing(s)? Have the angle(s) on your X-fer case output or rear differential pinion input changed? Altering the propeller angle due to recent lift kit installation? Or, when the TC locks up could the added torque cause the leaf springs to "S"? Hence changing angles? What about slip joint on rear shaft, could it be worn and causing a bind under added twist/torque? Is the Trans or motor mounts weak? Never know? I'm not trying to create more work/confusion - Just trying to help? Didn't see anything about these items being checked, they can create havoc on the ol' drive train and really throw you off course trying to find the problem. Kind of like finding where a leak on the roof is comming from if everything "appears" to be in good shape.

Sorry to hear your still having troubles. Hope you find it soon. Good luck. Keep us upraised as to what you find out.

My only ideas would be its not the transmission but something else in the driveline? My 5 spd shudders pretty bad when in the lower rpm's under full load and there is nothing wrong with it. I don't know how the dodge torque converters gets its oil, but I know the chevy 700r gets it through the center of the input shaft and they get plugged sometimes and don't give the converter full pressure and then they slip. It sounds like if you give yours more pressure it gets better so maybe there is a restriction in the shaft. Hope this helps.
