Asking this for a friend. He has a 91 CTD 250 2wd auto. Over the weekend while trying to rock the truck back and forth to get it out of the snow he thinks he may have screwed something up. Now he does not have OD or cruise and his speedometer doesn't work. Also his "wait to start" light and his "water in fuel" light stay on. From reading some of the other posts, it sounds like the OD and speedometer issues might be the TPS. We will check that out tonight. Just wanted to ask if anyone has any other suggestions while we are looking into it. Could the lights staying on be a fuse blown somewhere or something else? Thanks in advance.

The speed sensor or the wire harness will cause the condition mentioned.

The other problem..... did you say the two lights rermain on all the time??

The OD, cruise, and speedo are dependent on the VSS unit on the trans. Sounds like he might have tore some wires loose or broke the unit.

Ditto on the other lights. Check the wiring to the rear for the RWAL and make sure everything is connected yet.

OK, just talked to my friend with the problems. He said he thought it may have been the speed sensor and checked last night and everything was still connected. I found a parts store that keeps these in stock so he's going to pick one up tonight and we'll try to just replace it. Thanks for the info, I'll let y'all know if it works or not.

Well, he replaced the VSS and still nothing. No O/D, no speedometer, and no cruise. We had some problems finding the right part though. It is a 91 truck but none of the sensors we looked at for 91s looked anything like the one in the transmission. We checked a 92 and found it but like I said, it still doesn't work. Also, I screwed up the light thing... his lights won't come on, not they won't go off. Any other suggestions? He checked all the connections and fuses and everything seems fine.

Does the sensor have to be cocked a certain way? I know with the speedometer gear on my Jeep, if you don't have it lined up exactly the right way, it won't work. The speed sensor on this truck has a similar connection but he said when he put the new one in that it looked like it was in the same position as the one he pulled out.
