Yesterday I installed a Banks six gun with speedloader and guages. It worked fine until last night. I noticed that it would not shift into overdrive. I drove it for a few minutes and after driving for about 2-3 minutes at a constant speed it shifted into overdrive. But that was the last time it has not shifted into O/D since. I had some codes flashing on the six gun unit, but they went away. I took off the whole six gun package this morning and the truck still acts the same way. Does anyone know the problem? I have not reset the computer yet. Do I just take the cables off and reinstall after a few minutes?

There is no check engine light.

Not sure if disconnecting the batteries will "reset" the computer. Best bet in my opinion would be to contact Banks tomorrow morning. I'd hope that such a big outfit would have a decent Customer Service department or a Tech Support contact. Good luck.

It did not change anything. I will be contacting them tomorrow, but I also have to get to work tomorrow, so I am hoping someone has had a similar problem and that it is an easy fix. Thanks

Does it start out in first? It could be in limp mode because somethong is out of range, and nothing to do with Banks.

If you shut it off and restart, does it then shift ok for a little while?

It does start out in first. It shifts OK until time for overdrive, then nothing at all. It may not have anything to do with the Banks unit, but I did have to tap into t transmission wires to install. I have removed the entire unit, harness, and connection wires. I have also disconnected the batteries and reconnected. I have also done more than 6 starting cycles. I need some help!!

Can anyone help?? The truck is still down and I need it for work tomorrow. ANY suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Robert

From 96 service manual. No 3-4 up shift (doesn't shift to overdrive).

1. Dash O/D switsh off possition.

2. Overdrive circuit fuse blown.

3. O/D switch wire shorted/open cut.

4. Distance or Coolant sensor malfunction.

5. TPS malfunction.

6. Neutral switch to PCM wire shorted/cut.

7 PCM malfunction.

8. Overdrive solenoid shorted/open.

9. Solenoid feed orfice in valve body blocked.

10. Overdrive clutch failed.

11. Hydraulic pressure low.

12. Valve body valve stuck.

13. O/D piston incorrect spacer.

14. Over drive piston seal failure.

15. O/D checkvalve/ orfice failed.

Seems to me a failed trans temp sensor can keep it from going into overdrive also a non-working engine (crank/cam position sensor) speed sensor will also (if tack is working engine/crank/cam speed/position sensor is OK).

The trans fuses are OK. I made clean cuts and reconnected the 2 wires that I tapped for the Six Gun TCC. The connector pins are OK. There are no other cut wires in that part of the harness. I have no idea what the problem could be other than a bad OD solenoid. Has anyone had one of these replaced? What is the cost??

Thanks

Robert

Would a problem like this normally give me a code? I figured if the wire was cut or not making the correct connection it would give me an open circuit condition.
