I have a question. Hopefully not a problem. 1998. 5 quad longbed 2wd autotowing 7500 maybe 1 weekend a month. Daily driver otherwise. 158000 miles 2nd lift pump, new starter contacts, speed pickup in diff, 1 leaky rear axle. K/N filter ,bone stock and RELIABLE so far [just like I like it!] I read in Trailer Life magazine about adding a toggle switch to help control torque converter lockup. My truck does what I call a double downshift if pushed hard uphill. I believe it downshifts and unlocks at same time. Then makes 1 [upshift] till I let off or crest the hill. Any way to unlock without downshift or can someone educate me as to if this is normal or not. I do try to take out of o/d at bottom of hill to minimize shiftihg hard under load. Truck pulls great on the flat and I am satisfied with acceleration otherwise. Thought about losing the muffler but was told the drone could be bad in cab. Am very happy with truck until reading some of the sites, maybe I shouldnt look. Thanks for any input it is appreciated. Troberts

Welcome to the TDR. :)

I would suggest to not use a switch on the torque convertor, on a stock transmission. If it is used improperly, it will damage the transmission and/or the TC lock-up clutch.

Can't be of much help on your truck, but if you do a search on the forums, look for transmission hunting, or something like that.

Most of the heat in an Automatic Trans comes from the Fluid friction in the torque convertor when it is unlocked. If you are towing uphill, you especially dont want to drive with the TC unlocked.

What model Trans do you have, Maybe it has a TV cable and it needs adjusting.
