hello, I have never posted in the 2nd gen. page before, I normally stay in the 1st gen. page. However, I have a question on 2nd gens.

I am looking at a 1997 3500 with a automatic transmission that has 75,000 miles on it. I have read or heard about the transmission having problems if you pull alot. I have also read if you change the torque converter and valve body that will not fix the problem but it will help. Have any of you done this before and if so what is the cost associated with these upgrades. Is there any other upgrades I would need to do. I ask because this may the the deciding factor on me buying the truck.

Any thoughts, ideas, or recommendations will be appreciated. Thank You.

Do a search in the 2nd gen forums

There is lots to read then make your decision. You can always put in an upgraded transmission if you want. Ken Irwin

For me personally, if I were going to be towing a lot, then get a truck with a manual transmission, or put in a BOMBed auto. Wouldn't bother with just the TC/VB. If the transmission is already out on the bench, you might as well BOMB it. Save the extra $400 some bucks for pullling the transmission again later.

The Goerends transmission I have is sweet, but I'm still a 3-pedal man myself.

Call Dave Goerend Goerend Bros Trannies he has the best priced Auto Trannies on the market. A friend of mine with a 99 2500 got a transmission that would hold a Edge Comp and some 60HP injectors for $2800! :--) Its shifts smooth as butter if your just easing along the road... ... but put it the floor and HANG ON! Oo. I don't scare easily, but coming around a curve side ways in his QC LB SCARED ME! :-laf

I can second that. :D :D Oo. Oo. Cool to see the front-end come up to.

I can't break my tires loose on dry pavement, but I can when it is damp. First time I drove my truck when it was raining after the new transmission, I did for the first time. Just went around a corner as I did before, and gave it the usual hammer down, because the my old TC was loose as a goose. Weeeeellllll, the truck was probably on its way to do a 360, but was able to correct it, before it happened. :--)

A little scary, but kinda fun too. :-laf

Feels almost like a manual transmission. Nice solid shifts.
