this morning while sitting at the stop sign. I was in the tow/haul mode, shifted into N, transmission went into manual shift mode and poppped into 4th. the only way to get it out of the manual mode was to turn off the truck and re-start. I feel a surge in the truck, like it wants to take off when the brake is on, after its first started, for the first couple of miles. After awhile it disappears, and drives normal. This started happening after the last flash, has anyone had this happen or am I the lucky one ???

Leaving for a trip, the truck did it's surge, engine light came on and I kept driving. After 150 miles of driving, turned truck off and filled tank. Got back on the road and no engine light, no codes came up went checked. I'll service transmission this weekend and take a look. I usally just change out the fluid and filters and have never had it flushed. Do my fellow TDR's think a change out is ok or do I need to do a flush ???

Darren,

I don't think the owner's manual says anything about auto transmission flush. Am I wrong?

Based on nothing but old age, many years of experience, and my gut instinct, I have always been suspicious of dealer service writers trying to sell customers on having their transmisson flushed. I think it benefits the service department's bottom line but not the owner.

I can certainly see the reason for pumping new and clean fluid through the cooler lines to replace all the fluid, torque converter, cooler, cooler lines, and pan, but not flushing with harsh chemicals.

I would change the fluid and filter(s) making sure I am using nothing but quality MOPAR filters and brand name correct ATF. If something else is going on I would again recommend taking it down to Athens to let Mike Mullenax examine it.

Going to drain and replace filters this week. That should tell me somehthing good or bad. If I let the truck warm up for a few minutes ( 6 or 7 ) the problem goes away. Im thinking theres a valve in the transmission that might be sticking. Fresh Amsoil and filters hopefully will do the trick. transmission service has been about 45k ago...
