transmission question

When did Dodge start putting the automatic transmission with the overdrive in their trucks? Mine is a 91 and it seems to have a three speed auto. I was just wondering when the overdrive gear came into play. . . unless mine is screwed up and don't know it and the overdrive just isn't working.

By the way, I haven't had time to check my fuel lines, those of you who helped me with a smoke problem, but I'm doing that tomorrow. Could it also be the air filter thats causing blue/grey smoke?

The LATE '91's got the OD transmission, as well as an intercooler. There may have been a few other "perks" - not sure, buy maybe the extended cab also came out mid-year '91?

The 92 D350 Club Cab I had was equipped with an overdrive transmission. It was built in March of '92. It pulled a Hitchhiker II 5th wheel all over the western US. No problems other than one TPS in 100,000 miles. I changed the fluid, filter,(used only Mopar)and adjusted the bands every 12-15,000 miles.

My dads has the 727 transmission the person that owned it befor my dad put a Gear Vendors over drive in, it works great. I would recomend one if you have about $2800. I know it drop 500 RPM on the tach at 60 mph it runs 2000 with out it in OD and runs 1500 with the OD on at the same speed. That also makes for better MPG.
