transmission removal
There are 6 bolts attaching the flexplate to TC. There's a small access plate on the passenger side, then the access cover on the bottom of the bell housing. I think the converter bolts are 15 or 16mm and are torqued to 35-40 lb/ft. A set of long 3/8 extensions and several wobbly extensions will make removing the transmission to engine plate bolts much easier, I think on the 48re these are 14mm bolts, 8 total.
On my transmission, I didn't have to remove the starter, even though the factory service manual instructed me to do so.
I think its easier to remove the transmission/transfer case together, instead of one at a time, placing cribbing under the trans pan & the isolator connecting the trans/tc to the crossmember. Be careful to balance the assembly side to side and/or secure it to the transmission jack.
I hope this applies, my truck is a 3rd gen.
