I'm taking out my auto transmission. Is there bolts that need to be removed that attach the flex plate to the converter? I removed the small cover and can't see any. I know they are there on gas engines, I've done them before but what about on the diesel? Thanks Pete

You can't actually see the bolts without a mirror. There's a cover plate on the passenger side of the bell housing (near the rear side of the oil cooler), it's just inboard from the "barring" hole. With the inspection cover off the transmission you can use a bar or screwdriver to turn the engine while feeling for the bolts in the access hole. I make a line up mark on the flex plate, torque convertor and bell housing so it's easier to locate the holes when you go to put back in...

Good Luck

I just ran into the same problem on my 98 twelve valver. I'm tired of feeling around. I'm ready to remove and can't find access to the bolts. Back under the truck I go! Thanks Guys, This is why I'm a TDR member since 1999. Herb
