O. k. I ordered an ATSG manual... . IT's helpful... . What I got covers the "A" RH series trans models... A500(42RH), A518(46RH), A618(47RH).

What numbers correspond to the RE models? I need them to order the correct manual.

The manual points out that the 47 only added more clutch plates... So I ask:

Are the internals going to be similar to the point that an attentive eye would catch the changes and be able to use the RH manual?

I'm 90% confident I can build my own trans now that i've seen this manual. . Just need to get these final details down.

Thanks

I'm wouldn't call myself a trany guy , but the E is the electrical controls , I think in mine [ 94 ] its OD , 4th and a sensor that lets those work when trans warm, yours [95 ] more elec. controls .

Hey Kyle,

I dont know about the ATSG manuals  . But i have the Dodge factory service manual for that trans :D with every little detail you need to know, and you are welcome to it when you build ;) I am not far from you, let me know if you want to use it.

Dave.

Kyle, Do your self a favor and go with a professional transmission builder;)

Gorend, DTT, ATS, Sun Coast, and in my case... Hot Rod Diesels :)

Are you prepared to properly clearance your clutch packs?

Check pressures?

Adjust bands properly?

I know, in one ear out the other (Honestly, if you told me what I am telling you, I would probably build it anyway. So I understand)... Just trying to help you out :)

CJ

Braunig, we need to hook up some time... You're my inspiration at this point.

CJ, by the time I get this worked out, I will be neck deep in heavy truck transmissions. . I should be able to work something out. And I do have all of the equipment available to me. And an experienced trans builder at my disposal.

What I realy need to know is that nomentclature. I know what difference is in the transmission itself, I just need to know the different in the 3 digits numbers. . (A518, A618) Right now I have the manual for the A's (RH tansmissions)

I also could also make the money to have it done by then... . I just want something new to learn.

ok let me see if i can help 47rh 4 is for 4 speed you can have either 3 or 4 , 7 refers to the torque capacity 5,6, or 7,7 being the strongest. i have heard of a 48re but havent seen one, thr r refers to rear wheel drive and the h is for hydraulic control (with the exception of 4th gear and converter lockup) , the e in 47re is for computer control (electronic) shift by means of an electronic governor and line pressure solenoids. hope that helps.

Kyle,

The RE/RH trans are very similar, deleted the Hydraulic governor assembly on the RH and replaced with electronics on the RE. But as far as set up, clearances, adjustments and pressure testing, they are basically the same. The 47 trans (618) has more than just added clutches. Bigger shafts, more planetary pinions, etc, etc... . but they are very similar to the 46 (518), more like a big brother version. The set up specs won't matter anyway, because whichever vender you choose (cough..... DTT... cough. . cough :-laf ) will have their own specs/clearances for the build.

I am with you on the build. So far i have turned every wrench on my truck, and when it was transmission time i wasn't about to change. I say build it!

Dave

That answers my question then... I just wanted to know the primary difference in the electonic system vs the hydraulic... The manual I have covers all of the updates mechanically, but since I don't have the RE manual, I couldn't compare that aspect.

plenty of time to learn Dave. :)

Does said vendor provide thier instruction for assembly or is that the secret ingredient?
