Hi y’all,

I recently changed my transmission fluids and filters and now the truck doesn’t pull forward in first at idle anymore. Fluid is correct level. No codes. Any ideas?

Do you measure the level idling?

How old was the fluid?

Did you make sure the filter is seated correctly and the old seal ring was pulled from the bore before the new went on with the filter?

The fluid 50,000 miles. I pulled the old seal and installed the new one. Torqued the flat filter to spec. Checked at idle after running through the gears.

So far so good..

You say it doesn't pull in First gear.. so the truck doesn't move at all?

I suppose you gave it time to refill the Coverter.

Did you disconnect any electical connectors, maybe by accident?

Before the service when shifted into D the brake needed to be applied to hold the truck back. Now it just sits there. I dont recall undoing any connections. Good questions.

Might want to let us know what year of truck and trans it is, that is important info.

Did you change the spin on filter? Did the new filter have metal or plastic threaded nipple?

Did the trans lurch when put in gear before like it wanted to take off or did it just roll smoothly on a level surface? Are you pointed up hill at all now? Last but not least a brake caliper maybe hung?

Spin on filter with plastic threads, it was a pain to put on as it wanted to cross thread constantly. It did lurch a bit before, or pull as I called it. Even pointed downhill it doesn't really want to go. Good idea to check the caliper, I'll check that.

Yearly I check and lube the caliper slides as part of my annual PM. Created a list to check off as done. Have found 1 rear and opposite front slides sticking! Have boot kits for slides with other parts. Just one of those things to keep track of! Have the PM sheet to avoid issues with state about maintenance being over 10K!

You should not use the filters with the plastic nipples, they ar ea know issue and leak. The leak on the spin on filter will cause the truck to jump when placed in gear.

Get the trans up to operating temp then make SURE the level is completely full. One quart low cause it not t0 work correctly, throw codes, and lead to trans failure.

The only filters available from Mopar have plastic threads, did you buy the metal thread insert from Geno’s?

I am using the PPE pan and their larger filter that has the steel nipple, won't use the stock Mopar stuff. One of the best upgrades to the transmission is the heavier deeper pans to strengthen the transmission and stop the flexing. I think there are others than have the steel nipple, just don't use them as I want the bigger filter.

Thanks, I’ll look into that. Confirmed the fluid is correct when hot, there’s a hard downshift from 6th to 3rd when slowing down as well. Drivers side rear caliper is 30 degrees warmer that passenger side, will check that, thanks for the idea.

I pulled off the pan after getting new filters from the dealer. The model I had installed for the screw on was incorrect despite looking identical. Moral is always remember to check part numbers. Thanks for the help y’all.
