I just discovered a shifting problem while pulling my 10,000 lb fifth wheel. After driving for several hours and coming to a complete stop, the auto transmission would not start in first gear but second gear causing a very difficult start with much transmission slippage. The truck has 63,000 miles on it, and I have serviced the transmission regularly by the book. Has anyone experienced a similiar problem? Any advice?

Mine did the same thing. It turned out to be the valve body was bad. Check and see if it works when you manually shift it into 1st gear. If it works manualyy it's gonna be the valve body. Hope this helps you out.

I would bet it's the governor solenoid and or transducer. Mine did the same thing not to long ago after pulling my 5th wheel back from Las Vegas. Check to see if you have any trouble codes. My MIL never came on though. I could not manually shift mine into 1st gear. Hope this is all thats wrong with yours, as its a minor problem but quite common. I had trans serviced at same time repair was done and total cost was a little over $300. Good luck.

same thing happened with mine lucky it was still under warranty though. The dealer replaced the complete valve body because of a design change for this problem with the governor circuit. if you can replace the complete valve body so you know you won't have to deal with this problem again.

I also experienced a similar problem. I am not up to speed on the terminology but they said that some kind of band slipped off inside. They put it back on and charged me $65 and it ran great for quite a while.

Thanks, fellows, for your responses! If my problem continues I thinks I'll replace the governor solenoid and the pressure sensor. Thanks again.
