Looking at purchasing a 1995 1 ton auto truck. When cruising at 50-65 mph, engine rpm increases approx 300 rpm, then drops back to normal. This can happen once in 50 miles, or 10 times in 50 miles. Help! Has anybody ever run into this type of problem?

It's probably a dirty TPS causing the torque convertor to unlock and then lock. Usually fixing it only involves some contact cleaner. A '95 does not have the problem as bad as later 12 valve trucks.

Do you have cruise control?

If so, does it drop out of cruise if you hit certain bumps in the road?

Tps probably needs cleaning, also make sure your kick down lever on the transmission is moving freely.

This too can be fixed.

Good luck

Dont rule out the other posibilities. This was my expiernce.

1 Check voltage at tps(seemed real odd in spots)

2 Cleaned tps(problem left for a while)

4 Replaced tps(problem continued)

5 Rerouted tps wire to eliminate electrical noise(problem continued)

6 Checked resistance at transtemp sensor and it was bad

7 Replaced trans temp sensor and have been rollin ever since

The trans would lock up the converter then the converter would unlock then it would shift into drive then back into overdrive then lockup the converter and then all over again very intermitant

Good luck

Brian
