While driving my truck today I noticed the transmission would shift from O. D. to 3rd. transmission shifts well through all gears it just seems as though it will not stay in O. D. I did a search on here and just really need to know where to start. Truck is a 2000 Ram 2500 with no mods and 90,000 miles on it. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

You sure it is going to 3rd or is it just the TC lockup cycling? How many RPM does it change. DTT filter will help if it is the TC lockup cycling. SNOKING

It sounds like it is the problem that plagues everybody at some point with the 47re. Before spending money on it, try this easy fix I learned off of here. A guy posted this link on here from Suncoast Trans website, I dont have it though. All you do is cut one of the wires on the APPS, I think it is the black one with yellow line. Then ground it to the negative terminal on the battery. I have my transmission totally rebuilt and this happened to me, solved the problem. Also did it on my dads stock 47re and it solved the problem, and cost practically nothing. Maybe try a search for it if you need the detailed instructions, unfortunately I dont have the link, maybe somebody will chime in that has it, I will look for it.

Do a search for removing the alternator wire from the loom. Electrical noise from the alternator wire is usually the culprit. Installing a noise filter accomplishes the same thing, but why spend $$ if you don't have to?

Godspeed,
Trent

I'm pretty sure it is going into 3rd. The RPM difference is like when you would turn the OD off. I took the truck down the interstate last night and it even seemed like once it may have shifted into 2nd briefly. So from what I'm understanding the insulation on the ground wire is breaking down interfering with the APPS. I found the Suncoast link. Thanks. I wanted to see what someone else thought of my transmission problem before I started spending alot of $$$$$.

Thanks again

Chris

If its hunting in and out of lockup

The most likely cause is loose or poor battery connections or the sensor ground behind the starter is poor causing the apps voltage to vary.

Could you post the Suncoast info or link? SNOKING

Basically the APPS must have a good ground or it will see varing voltages making the transmission shift/hunt. Is grounding the APPS to the battery really the best good grounding location?

I wonder why they tell you to go to the dash to ground it? It is much closer to the drivers side battery than the dash! Snoking

I'm puzzled by that advice too.

With the two computers (ECM and PCM) in the engine compartment, I don't think they could even use the argument they're trying to get the new APPS ground closer to the computers (not that they necessarily are).

Just doesn't make sense... unless I'm missing something really simple.

hey JLandry, I saw you have the Hypertech Max energy. How do you like that? there is one for sale locally and I was considering buying it so I could ditch the lame superchips. Do you have to tap the injection pump? thanks

I'm very satisfied with it and would definitely buy it again.

It's an ECM reprogrammer only. You plug it into the OBDII port under the dash, follow the on-screen prompts, and it flashes the ECM with customized software. At any time you can reflash the ECM back to the stock software.

I mainly bought mine to gain more power while towing a 7,400 pound travel trailer because prior to having it, my truck felt just a little overwhelmed when trying to pull the travel trailer up hills. With the MaxEnergy on stage 1 (out of 3 possible), the truck is perfect! There's noticeably more power and the EGT's stay lower at high throttle settings when pulling hills.

On a recent trip pulling the travel trailer from Seattle to Denver, I decided to start the trip by reflashing the ECM back to stock just to remember what it felt like before having the MaxEnergy program installed. It was unbearable. The truck was a dog pulling hills and the fuel economy suffered (down to 9. 5 mpg). The next morning I flashed the ECM back to stage 1 and all was well again with just enough added power to make towing a pleasure. The fuel economy was also back to normal for towing (about 12. 5 mpg average).

I haven't tried stages 2 or 3 on the MaxEnergy out of concern about the long-term health of my 47RE auto transmission. Trailer towing is hard enough on it.

Best regards,

John L.

Well I did nothing to fix my transmission problem. Everything seem to be working fine however I pulled the codes an got P1693 and P0230. I cleared the codes and P1693 still shows. What now?

You can ignore the P1693 code... that's informational and will clear on it's own in time. The P0230 has nothing to do with the transmission, so I'd just continue to drive the truck and see what happens.

Good luck,

Just curious CBeard; did you try the Suncoast fix? Or you did it and it didn't work? My truck locks and unlocks in the 30 to 40MPH range at steady speed through town. Really annoying.

P0230 has something to do with the lift pump, that is cool it gave you a code for it before it screwed up your VP. hopefully all is well with the injection pump.
