Towing about 7,000 lbs I am feeling a slight shuttering when accelerating from a stop, most definite when on an incline. Is there a band adjustment that could need some maintenance? In 60K I have owned it for 40k, and completed one trans service. Oil has never looked burnt or got "hot" according to the gauge (random checks).

Of the trucks 60k easy miles, 25k of them are hooked to a trailer. Thank you.

This does sound like it could be launch shudder. I have experienced launch shudder at two different time periods over the 360,000 miles of driving my truck. Both times the event occurred while getting the vehicle into motion with heavy loads. Both times the fix was to remove the driveshaft and thoroughly clean the slip yoke splines and re-lubricate with proper grease.

Axle wrap is normal when getting a heavy load into motion. That motion must be absorbed axially by the driveshaft slip yoke. If not, pulsations will occur, sometimes described as a shudder or a vibration at slow speeds just after getting the vehicle into motion.

If you have a two piece driveshaft, this could apply.

No weight in the bed, I put Amsoil in the rear diff maybe 15k ago.

We have a 2 piece shaft mega cab hemi at work that has had driveline shake at take off forever. This seems faster than that. I can picture the axle wrap scenario but I just don't feel like I am towing heavy enough and accelerating hard enough to cause wrap...but who knows.

I adjusted the bands in my '00 a long time ago. I don't remember why I did it, but I was wondering if that is something that would maybe clear this up. Or if I should consider it for maintenance. I'm by no means an auto trans guy! Thanks guys.

I had a 14 3500 MEGA with a 68rfe 6.7 342 rears. I pulled 14000 k 5th wheel . It shuddered at launch every time . Would just roll on the throttle slowly to minimize it . Took it to the dealership and they said that it was fine . I feel it was a combination of weight and gear ratio. My son bought it a couple of years ago and tows with it also . Almost 100k and still towing . I did upgrade to an HO with an Asian and 372 no shudder anymore.

I had exactly the same experience with my 11 HO DRW with 3.42's towing a combined 29k. I simply got the load moving then hammered it. Towing my 15 DRW AISIN with 4.10's at 35k combined taking off on fairly steep grades it simply moves freely.

Thank you. Did you ever try additives or different brands of fluid?

Put a GoPro camera under the truck aimed at the drive shaft center bearing. If the drive shaft is jumping up and down you have the launch shudder. Ladder bars, changing the pinion angle for the load, and an extreme of a poly enter bearing can cure it. The poly bearing may induce a high speed vibration. With the power the Cummins has: Ladder bars should be standard equipment from the factory...

General reference material on drive train angles. - I have run the Poly on GM stuff and it can be adapted to Dodge/RAM pickups.
