My friend has an '04 HO with auto. He states he has a problem with the transmission slipping after it has been run for a while and the truck is restarted. The fluid looks and smells ok anjd is at the correct level. The truck has 72,000 miles and the fluid/filter has never been changed. Any ideas other than a fluid and filter change? BTW, the truck isn't used for towing and no codes showing. Thanks.

My understanding is that the +4 fluid does not change smell or color like the earlier fluids did, but I'd like to hear if that is what everyone else has experienced. This has been the cleanest auto that I've ever owned. Fluid looks and smells good every change with just a dusting of pan sediment. That with 110,000 miles and the BD Power Pup at 90hp since about 60k when I had Tim do the VB. Oo.

Twice when I changed the fluid in my T case... ATF +4... it did have a touch of brown to it, didn't notice what it smelled like though.

I had the darker fluid out of the Tcase as well, but figured it was due to being a gear assembly with more wear metals in suspension due to no filtering. I'll have to see if I can remember where I picked this up. I do recall that it was related to the +4 being considered a synthetic. But I don't know if I want to start us down that road.

Owers manual quote from my 04. schedule B every 30,000 and schedule A is 100,000 Wow. then I read schedule requirements who will not have at least half of these. I change mine regularly at 25,000. may be a waste but I got over 100,000 before any problems. When the hot slipping started it was all down hill, fuel mileage, and it just didn't seem to get any better by it's self. all with in that 25,000 mile service the pan was like pink goo. Just saying that $4500 later a wish I would of had it checked (serviced) sooner when the problem started. we could have saved her for alot less money.

This may sound stupid but does the slip happen immediately or does it happen after being parked for a little while? If it happens after being parked, could it be the Mopar drainback issue where the TC drains into the pan and then takes a minute to get charged back up again? Just a thought.
