Just drove my 2010 2500 for the first time after a transmission flush and filter replacement. *I noticed on a 120 mile trip I felt the trans slip *about 6 times but only while in 2wd. *There was potentially ice so I was in 4x4 a lot of the trip and did not seem to feel the issue during that time
*I just dropped the pan so not a full flush, but i will admit I did not replace the small seal on the sump filter and just kept the original one in there. *I did notice the filter did not feel super tight up in the valve body.
My question is would my symptoms be due to that sump filter not snug up to the valve body. *I also have heard of a clip that you can get to help hold that sump filter sold to the valve body.
Let me know your thoughts
Thanks

The main sump filter normally "pops" pretty securely into the seal, so if it felt loose, yes, I would check it. The tip of the filter snout should be pushed up THROUGH the seal (not just resting against it).

But let me ask: Did the trans ever go into logical limp-in mode (1st and 4th gears only)? If the trans was actually slipping, it should have set a Gear Ratio Error fault code, and that in turn would cause logical limp-in. If you have no check engine light, no limp-in, and no fault codes, then perhaps your trans was not really slipping.

When did you notice the slippage? When first shifted into gear? During an upshift (engine flared up slightly and then the shift completed)? Or while driving along in a certain gear (trans not shifting)?

Thanks for the reply. *The snout did not sit to firm in the seal. *It felt like with a good bump it would slip down a bit so possible it could pull air if not sealed.
The only time it felt like it slipped was while cruising in 6th gear with no gear changes With constant acceleration kinda felt like a small jolt * No check engine lights or limp mode. *It was possible ice given the conditions but I have never experienced that kind of slippage with this truck. *When I would get into ice and the rear end breaks loose it would be a much smoother feeling. **
One other piece to this is I did hit a deer half way through this trip and locked the tires up pretty hard on the highway. *No damage with the aftermarket bumper and I did not run over it but possible something could have happened then from that jolt.

When you say you felt a small jolt, does that mean a slight jerk, as if you very quickly tapped the brakes? If so, then I would suspect a momentary glitch in the engine torque, rather than transmission slippage.
In 2007-2008 trucks, I've seen some instances of random jerks while cruising at highway speeds, that were caused by bad wiring (bad injector circuit, in the wiring harness right where it runs underneath the valve cover on the engine). Perhaps you are experiencing something similar.

I dropped the transmission pan and replaced the sump and spin-on filter on my 2011 last year. Against numerous postings saying not to remove the seal, I did. Hardest part of the job. However, my sump filter neck fit very tight when installing. The T-25 torx bolt should hold the filter in place never the less if it was torqued properly. I have read about problems caused by the filter dropping down.
