Am I the only one whos truck takes several seconds to shift into OD when under light load or part throttle? Are there any reflashes to fix this issue? Thanks in advance.

Slow Shifting

jgram, I had a 2000 V10 that did the same thing. It would hang up in 3rd and alot of times I would have to back off of the throttle just to get it to shift. Called the dealer and they said that's normal. Didn't seem normal to me, that's probably why I went with the 6 sp this time. Also, mine would hang up in 2nd sometimes and I would have to let off the throttle to shift. I hate those Dodge autos.

Mine does this when it is cold, mine seems to be normal compared to several other auto's I've driven. I think the best way to check out what is normal is for you to go to your dealer and drive another truck setup just like yours. Drive it over the same roads and conditions that you drive your truck. Then you will know for sure. It is hard to compare shifting decriptions over the internet.

My truck does the same thing, but only when the outside tempetures are below freezing. Probably has something to do with the computer, and engine tempeture. I know that other computer controlled vehicles the lockup torque convertor doesn't engage until the computer goes into what they call closed loop, after the engine is warmed up to a preset temp and other engine conditions are met. Maybe our trucks do the same, with the exception that the computer won't let it shift into OD. ??? Sorry for long post.

Mine has done that since new, lots worse in the colder weather.

ditto

As these other guys have said, mine does that when it's cold. A little warm up time in neutral seems to help minimize the effect.

Jgram, I think the main thing to do is not try to compare this transmission to any other mfgs, ie Chevy or Ford. Most every other vehicle I have ever driven has had firmer shifts, both down and up. At work I drive Suburbans and Tahoes alot, so I was trying to compare the Dodge to the way those shifted. I had taken my 2000 in because of the way it shifted and after the tech said NPF, I asked to drive one of their new ones on the lot. Sure as S**t, that one drove the same way. Mine, however, was not just limited to the extreme cold temps. It would act up sometimes even after warming up.

Because I now have the 6sp, it's not an option for me, but the guys that have gone with the transmission upgrades, like the DTT stuff, seem to be doing alot of this :D :D :D .

Thanks for sharing guys I guess it is colder here in MS now and I just put on a Double deep Mag-Hy tec pan which is aggrevating the problem. Temp in the transmission stays below 125 deg. Lately it has been around 100 deg which is making the symptoms worse. I see a valve body and converter in my future. Then somemore bombing!:D

I hate to say this to ya'all, but my trans. does not do this at all. It shifts the same no matter the temp. Whether it's 15 degrees or 80 degrees, it shifts fine. I would get it checked.

Maybe a stuck govorner solenoid? Maybe a VB problem? I also understand that there is some kind of seal problem in the 47RE that can cause this.

Based on articles in past TDR's the transmission is computer controled to create this delayed shifting which is affected by outside temperature and fluid warm-up requirements. This delayed shifting is normal. I have driven a 1/2 dozen Dodge CTD auto's and they all do this. If yours is not doing this you might want to take yours in and have it checked. That delay is built-in to keep you from damaging the transmission. Hope this information helps, check out some of the old TDR's.
