I know this has been posted previously, but I am 6 hours from home and can't seem to figure out my issue and it apparently is not uncommon! This prob is not specific to cummins Rams. Saw some posts of 1500's with 5.9 v8 doing same thing. Archives I saw showed posts, but no actual "solution".
Transmission / tach surging @200-300 rpm when cruising down road. Almost like TC is locking / unlocking.
I have checked and cleaned battery terminals, chassis ground, block ground. I cleaned the pin connection on firewall passenger side (center plug). I also cleaned 8 pin connector and speed sensor pin connector on transmission. None of that worked, so I went to NAPA and picked up TPS sensor $250.00. No luck. #@$%! Alternator is only a year old and charging properly. I am at my wits end and need to drag the family back home. Needless to say, this has been a very relaxing road trip!!!!! Mods listed in sig..........
99 2500 AT with DTT TRANS UPGRADES, Edge EZ, DD stage 2 injectors etc, etc, etc

Thanks for looking! Any knowledgeable input most appreciated!

It is a typical problem that frequently has no good resolution. Could be APPS, could be PCM, could be wiring, could interference from other electrical items, a bad alternator, even an VP-44 going bad, or even the TC or trans developing an issue. Those are the common problems, there is a raft of uncommon problems that could be the source. A mystery switch on the TCC solenoid would maybe tell you if it is electrical or mecahanical and get you home with a little more peace of mind.

I agree with Cerb and I think I read a while back about someone who said his alternator checked good but somehow had an issue when it was checked with an oscilloscope. You can try disconnecting the power wire on the alternator and see if it continues to do it.

Thanks. Got home, but still doing it intermittently. Last time it acted up, cruise would not engage either. I'll double check batteries, alternator perhaps look into replacing computer. #@$%!
