I am planning on installing a 47rh transmission in my 1992 CTD. I have read all the previous posts concerning this and am now rounding up my parts.

Now I have a question for you transmission gurus. I have access to two 1995 transmissions. One is from a two wheel 2500 but the main case is cracked beyond repair but the overdrive section is still good. The other is from a 1995 four wheel drive. I am assuming, dangerous as it is, that the overdrive assembly from the two wheel drive transmission will bolt up properly to the four wheel drive main transmission. In other words, I am thinking that the overdrive sections are the only differences in these complete transmissions, and that the main section is identical in both transmissions. I need to know this before buying them and then finding out that there are some differences in the main transmissions, such as in output shafts, etc. .

Thanks in advance for any info on this! I know that for many of you this is probably a simple question but I am not at all familiar with these transmissions.

When I get this project done I will report back with the results. All the other parts I will need have been located and I look forward to making this swap.

Just realized that this probably should have been put in the First Gen Forum. Please move it if needed. Sorry about that and THANKS!

My '95 service manual does not show any difference between the two OD units except at the back end where the 4X4 OD unit fastens to the transfer case and the 4X2 OD unit fastens to the drive shaft. That makes me think the output shafts are the same. You might want to check the part numbers for the output shafts to make sure they are the same. Should be.
