Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Transmission swap

I am new here so hoping i am in the right place.
I have a 2001 2500 5.9 auto 2wd.
Can i swap out my transmission for a newer 6 speed?
If i can what kind of headaches will i be looking at to do it?

So your truck has a 47RE 4 speed auto. You did not indicate if you wanted a 6 speed manual or auto. For a six speed manual you need a donor truck to park next to it and start swapping over parts.

For a 6 auto that would be quite difficult as there is a lot of electronics to control them.

Most will say putting a lot of money in a 2 wd truck is not the best idea.

My advice after having a 2001.5 for 14 years is beef up the 47RE and live with it, or save your money for a new truck.
