I know Dodge has never had a really good tanny that could handle the power of the CTD. Is there anyway that I could take an Allison transmission out of a chevy or gmc and replace mine. Like if i found one in good condition. Give me some feedback on your thoughts. Oo.

Shouldn't be much of a problem if it will clear the cab floor. They do use the Allison behind the 5. 9L in other applications, so getting an adapter for the motor shouldn't be much of a problem. Biggest problem would probably be dealing with the 4x4 and cross member(s). Don't know if anyone makes an adapter for the t-case or not. If not, a divorced t-case would probably be your only choice unless you have the equipment or plenty of money to blow on a custom made one. If it is a newer one, like what is used in the GM trucks, you'd have to deal with the electronics on it also.

Would probably be cheaper/easier to purchase a built up aftermarket 47RH transmission. Check the TDR links for vendors. There also lots of threads on aftermarket trannys. Enough reading for days.

A modern Allison conversion also requires an ECM to operate due to the electronics. The trany ECM needs to talk to the engine ECM and really doubt it would happen without a lot of work, if at all.

A good aftermarket 47 series transmission is a lot of fun.

JK, that's not far fetched at all... . many members have done the swap, just search through the older posts.

AL, i guess you could do it, but i wouldn't recommend it. having the world 6 speed auto would be nice, but that would probably require a body lift. most important is the money factor. a modified chrysler auto will outperform an allison, especially if it's the 5 speed 1000 that they use in the gm vehicles. and it'll cost you a lot less in money and headaches than putting in an allison.

i agree with 98 rammer, you could spend maybe 3-4,000 on upgrades for the 47re/h and have it last alot longer, and be able to withstand alot of power from our mighty ctd's, than to waste that money on an allison. no doubt that allison makes a awsome transmission my dad has one in his snap-on truck and has performed flawlessly, and im not 100% sure on this but does any company sell aftermarket products for the allison transmission? remember the allison can only go so far before it's power limitations are reached.

what ever decision you make will be well worth it

that's my . 02 cents!
