A MILLION PEOPLE HAVE ASKED THE SAME QUESTION BUT I AM CONFUSED ABOUT THE YEAR TRUCK THAT THEIR ANSWERS WERE FOR. I BOUGHT AN AUTOMETER TRANS TEMP GAUGE FOR MY 2005 2500 CUMMINS AUTO. WHERE DO I TAP INTO THE TRANS WITHOUT REMOVING THE PAN OR DRILLING IT? CAN I TAP INTO THE RUBBER PART OF THE LINE GOING INTO THE COOLER? IT IS ABOUT 4-5 INCHES OF RUBBER, BUT GENOS GARAGE SAYS THAT THEIR T DOESNT FIT MY YEAR. OR I KNOW THERE IS TALK ABOUT BUYING A REPLACEMENT LINE. I CANT BELIEVE THAT 2 FOOT LINE IS OVER 100 BUCKS. I DONT SEE WHY YOU CANT TAP INTO THE RUBBER LINE WITH A BRASS T AND 2 HOSE CLAMPS. HOW MUCH PRESSURE DOES THAT LINE GIVE OFF? ALSO IF SOMEONE HAS THE PART NUMBER FOR THE LINE FOR MY 05 THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL. I KNOW THIS IS A TIRED SUBJECT, BUT I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE I DO THE RIGHT THINK..... THANKS
 
Dieselmanor should have the replacement line for a round $ 65. 00,I used their line and it fits just like the stock one. You do get a lot of movement on the gauge being in the hot line.

There's a full replacement line that can be had from massdiesel.com for about 90 bucks. It goes on the hot side of the trans and gives you trans temp before the trans fluid is cooled . ohh and all caps means that you are screaming... are you?

Geno's sells a gadget that clamps to the outside of the cooling line next to the transmission and allows the sender to be screwed directly into it for about $30. It's called the "Acu-Temp Adapter". Look it up at "Genosgarage.com".



I have a similar device on my '06 that works very well and doesn't require any breach of the transmission integrity. I have a sender mounted in the pan of my '98 and believe it to be less reliable in showing real time load on the trans.

So how well does the Acu Temp Adapter work. Now my probe is in a pressure port on the transmission. Or should I just get the hose from Diesel manor?
 
The hose from diesel manor gives you the reading at pretty much the hottest point but like I said the temp fluctuates,I thouight it was easier going the new line route because I had all fresh fluid in the trans so very little was lost. The pan probably avgs. the temp better but you also lose all the fluid in the pan when put in, if you have a filter that needs to be changed then it's a good time to do the fitting in the pan.
 
The Acu-Temp Adapter appears to be more streamlined and neater than the adapter I fashioned from a brass compression tee but it should give the same results.

I found mine to respond quickly to changes in trans. temperature. It's mounted directly on the output cooling line so is in contact with the "hottest point" although it isn't directly in the fluid line. To me this is an advantage since the aluminum line and the brass fitting conduct heat very quickly yet there is no chance of line restriction or contamination of fluid. I applied a coat of "heat sink grease" (Radio Shack, $2. 99) to further enhance heat transfer.



Using a non-contact infrared thermometer I found temps at the gauge were consistent with the surface of the line at the transmission. Pan temps were considerably cooler due to volume of oil and being post-cooler.



The Geno's ad indicates 30 minute installation. I think it could be even faster. Took me longer to decide just where to fasten mine.
