First you have to decide where you want your probe to be located such as in the pan, trans test port, or cooler line. Personally, I am going to put the probe in the cooler line.

cooler line is the most accuarate way to install it. There are kits on the market that replace the transmission cooler line with an addtional port to put the temp sender in. These make it quick and easy to get the most accurate readings. I am not sure of who is currently selling them.

There was a thread going about a month ago covering this same subject and some of the guys mentioned where they bought their lines.

Pm Scott at Massdiesel for the replacement cooler line's. He's doing a complete gauge install on my truck this coming Monday.

Been doing some research on that myself. Its true that the outlet line will read the hottest as that is fluid that is leaving the converter but you need to have data to compare your gauge to.

Industry data I have dug up shows 160-195 deg is a good point to shoot for a long healthy trans life and that 225 should be the "H" point on your gauge and since those numbers relate to pan measurements I am gonna go there for monitoring.

The helpful folks at DTT say 270 is the "H" point if you install on the output line.

Your factory over temp lamp comes on at 270 in the pan:--)

When you say cooler line, do you mean going to the cooler so you know the temp of the trans oil coming out of the trans, or going back to the trans so you know what it is running on?

The line leaving the trans has the probe so you know how much heat is being produced.

I guess if 165-195 is a good pan temp to shoot for then 210-240 would be good temps for the out line.

I am only guessing on that based on the 225 pan "H" point vs the cooler out line of 270 "H" point.
