Ok I have read many many posts on the topic and am convinced that The line going from the trans. to the cooler is the place to install the sender. So far the only "kits" to do this I know of are the Jannetty Racing "transmission temp. manifold" and the Desert Diesel cooler line with sender fitting. Anyone have any insight about the Desert Diesel product or any other solutions offered by other companies. I am looking for ease of installation and long term reliability over price... . don't get me wrong I am cheap. Laziness is getting the better of me and I only want to do this once and as painless as possible ande would spend $ to get there.

Thanks

Early factory line.

There an early factory line about $100 that replace your hot line with a boss installed from the factory. I got mine through -- email address removed -- He sell the whole kit.

I used a trans line from Dodge that has the fitting already installed for the sender.

I think it's from a '94 model year. Part # 5011244AA.

It has a check ball in it that needs to be removed before installation(5 minute job) and replaces thre entire line.

JBlock must type faster than I do;)

Type faster

Better than that, I half way around the world in the middleast, congradulations on the part number.

Shovelhead, great website, love the harley too!

good deal

Thanks, just a few more questions.

Sounds like what I am looking for. Does the kit replace the whole line (including the flex) or just the metal line? Does the current flex hose mate to the new line? Heard someone changed the flexes to another year because of the plastic in the connectors. Is that true? Now is the time I suppose.

Oh yeah. Will I lose a lot of fluid during the swap? Thanks

It's a direct replacement - including the flex hose. It goes right on, no problem. You must remove the drainback valve (rubber ball), like Shovelhead said. I did mine when I did the trans. fluid/filter, so it was less of a mess. Without draining first, it would have been more of a mess. There was no plastic that I recall, but they do lay the paint on the fittings. I had to chip the paint off to get the right sized wrench to fit.

Replacement Trans Line

After removing the check valve ball from the new line assy, leave the piece of flex hose off the metal line. I put it back together after flushing out the line (after removing the check ball) & it makes it damn hard to get started into the trans because the flex end comes into contact with the heat exchanger & you can't get the other end lined up straight to start! I lost 3 1 qts of trans fluid out of the transmission & what a friGGin MESS! You won't get anything from the Heat Exchanger, Just at the bottom line. It will come out steady though.

Live & learn. Best to leave flex off until line @ transmission is started. FLUSH LINE THROUGHLY after removing check valve & spring.

Good Luck.
