I know this may really stir up a can o'worms but any thoughts on the best place to locate the sending unit for a transmission temp gauge?

After the cooler & before the heat exchanger, or after the heat exchanger before it returns to the transmission?

All opinions will be carefully considered!:-{}

Thanks,

Ron

I would say, right as it comes out of the transmission, that way you would have an idea of the conditions on the inside. The temp as it goes back to the transmission is of little concern, as long as the cooler is sized properly and that info can be gotten from the cooler manufacture.

just $0. 02

I was told there is a plug on the right side of the transmission that can be removed and the sensor installed there. It's one of the pressure ports and would read the temp of the fluid in the transmission. Anyone done this?

I'm getting ready to install a temp gauge set also and this would be good to know. If it could be put in on the side it would be a lot cleaner and dependable installation. Wouldn't have to worry about the hose blowing off or rupturing.

I recomend put it on the line that comes out of the transmission on the drivers side and has a thermo-switch set for 270/275 F for the 3-4/4-3 temp shift in line also. The line comes out at the hottest point of the transmission which is the tc on the way to the cooler. If you try the sender in the pan you will not see much movement on the gauge unless in heavy traffic or towing.
