A lot of us have them in the cooler line that goes from the transmission to the heat exchanger. This gives a good reading on how hot the transmission really is - when the fluid is the hottest.

Putting the sender there requires a port in that line. I bought a replacement line for a '95 - it has the port in it, so it's an easy install. That line costs around $90. at most dealers, but it can be cheaper depending on where you go. Some guys accomplish the same thing by putting a T-fitting kit in that line.

If anyone has a '95 then that doesn't work. The port in the line is used. I put mine in place of the plug in the front band piston cylinder. It's the most forward plug on the side of the transmission. If you get the 1/8" NPT sensor it just screws in placeing the plug. That location will work on any of these transmissions so you don't have to buy anything.

Is an ETH a 6speed? The plug on my 4500 is 3/4 pipe thread,I'm going to use a pipe bushing. I think fastcoolers have a port already. I don't know what thread the 6speeds have. The PTO cover is thick enough to tap or weld a fitting to.

If you want the hotest reading spot then listen to Fireman Dave. I just wanted a baseline to monitor temp. I used a plugged hole in the right rear bottom of the transmission. All access spots will give a different reading. When a transmission starts getting hotter a guage will show it, no matter where it is coming from. Save your $90 .

;) ;) ;) ;)

The forward output line that runs across the front of the transmission to the oil-to-water cooler. If you get the 95 line, it has a converter drainback check valve built into the rubber section of the line. You should remove the original check valve installed in the oil-to-water cooler OR replace the rubber section of the hose with a steel-braided section and leave the original check valve in place. I've had mine in for about a year. When I had DTT do my VB/TQ, they found the rubber hose expanded and distorted and replaced that section with the steel braided section.

Hope this helps. BF
