Transmission temp sensor in pressure test port??

I went in to have a transmission temp guage installed today and they wanted to install the sensor in a pressure test port in the transmission. I'd never seen any mention of this here and I insisted on having it installed in the hot line from the transmission to the cooler. Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on the option they were suggesting?

Ya done good! The pressure test points are before the oil gets to work so it's not going to be as hot as it is in the hot line to the cooler.

I bought trans temp gauge from TST with instructions to put sender in front servo test port too . So far work. Look like your shop is right.
