Amsoil question

Grease gun hose for fuel pressure gauge

I am in the process of installing gages and have a question about the placement of the transmission temp sensor on a 47RE auto. I have seen several posts about putting the sensor into one of the pressure test ports on the transmission. These ports all have a 1/8" NPT plug in them. My worry is that the temp sensor is about 3 times as long as these plugs and I don't want to install it into a place where it is going to come in contact with any internal moving parts. My guess is that this would be a bad thing to do :( . Any advice would be appreciated.

I have heard that some have put the sensor in the transmission. Might work, but I don't know enough about the inside of the transmission to say. I like the idea of putting it in the transmission line. Measures the temperature of the fluid as it comes out of the transmission... real information! I put mine in the line.

Ken,

Most TDR members believe the cooler line is the best place for the sender for the reason Steve stated. I also put mine in the cooler line (from a '95 truck which has a port in it for the sender). The line costs between $70. and $100. from the dealer depending on what kind of deal you can get. There are also kits for this that allow you to use your existing line for considerably less money.

Which Line?

I have the Jannety kit. Where is the line that I tap into???

It would be great to finish this tonight... . it's been a long day.

TIA,

Bill

Problems, Bill? If so, sorry to hear it. I thought the replacement line was worth it since it was such an easy bolt on swap. Good luck!:)

I meant that it appears the replacement line would have been much easier and worth the extra $$. I have the manifold and will have to pull the line to cut it. No problem (now that I know where it goes) :D

It has been a very educational day, and very rewarding!

Thanks again,

Bill

Thanks for all the good advice. For now, I made up an adapter so that the temp sensor doesn't extend into the transmission any further than the factory plug does and put the sensor into one of the test ports on the passenger side of the transmission. This will be temporary until I can order the cooler line that has the built in port for a temp sensor. It may be a few weeks before I can move the sensor since my wife says I can't spend all my spare time next weekend working on the truck, like I did this weekend :D .
