I have my sending unit in the passenger side front a bit above the pan. my question is what normal temps should i see? Is this at least an ok place to have, i know it would be better in the return line but this is the way it was installed when i bought the truck... secondly is it worth it to move it?

Do you mean it is a bit aboce the bottom of the pan or in the trans above the top of the pan?

If it is in the pan, you should probably see in the 160's. Not too sure though. all I do know is the factory trans light comes on around 275* on our trucks. pretty much useless.

If it's in the test port for the 2nd gear band servo then it's not doing you any good. Your trans can burn up and not show hot on the gauge it the sensor in that test port. You should get the '95 cooler line with the fitting for a temp sensor.

What Joe said.

If it is in the pan, it probably won't be of much use. It may not even read anything, running empty with the T/C locked. I only see 130-150* in the hot line, in those conditions. About 160-180* towing. When it is below 15* outside, It doesn't always even come off the peg (100*).
