48RE Acting Up-Please Help!

I replaced the transmission throttle valve actuator this winter which fixed my shifting up problems and no more codes and has worked for at least 3 months well and now when I come to a stop sometimes it feels like it shifts down hard could that be that actuator doing that or something. Thanks

Adjust your front band. Jess

Last year CEL came on and transmission performance suffered (would not hold cruise control speed and lows speed shifting delays)/limp mode. Got a new Throttle Valve Accuator (a common 05 problem) at a Transmission Shop for $454 (from the local Dodge dealer) and installation / labor was another $127. Now, just over a year later same transmission symptom occurred and a local shop cleared the mystery codes and all was well. Two weeks later, same symptoms with CEL and another shop got indefinite codes and cleaned battery terminals. All is good. Several hours later and hundreds of miles down the road, same transmission issues and CEL. So I bought a Code Reader at Wal-Mart to "clear" the code and instead the Reader says P1753 Transmission Throttle Valve Mechanical Performance and won't clear. I know this component is a "high" failure item, but are there any other measures to take besides another replacement - and why were two shops able to clear mystery codes and return performance (albeit temporarily)? Suggestions are appreciated.

Ok so now I am not to happy, I took it to the transmission shop had fluids and filter changed and both bands adjusted which they said were both way out of adjustment and it is still shifting down hard when I come to a stop down to 1st gear but now seems to be worse so now I am stuck they did say it could be a shift sylinoid or something like which is under the pan and then there was something else on the outside of the transmission, but no codes and I am getting very frustrated, any help would be great. Thanks

What year truck? Have you changed the transducer and gov solenoid in the last 40k miles?

The TTVA motors are not that problematic, the TV valves are. If it hangs the valve it will have high TV pressure as it comes to a stop and you get a hasher downshift. When they get real bad you get codes for the TTVA motor whne it might be a mechanical issue.

Its on a 2005 2500 and The only thing I have changed is the transmission throttle valve accuater and got the fluids change and bands adjusted which they said were way out of adjustment. But when I changed the ttva all my shifting got better for a couple months with no more high shifting now its almost every stop sign it shifts down hard, so now what and were are they located. Thanks

The TV valve itself is in the VB. It is so problematic that Sonnax has a repair kit specifically for it. You can find it here http://www.sonnax.com/parts/1846. Might want to consider this for the amount of fixes in it http://www.sonnax.com/parts/3465.

Without knwoing more about your specific transmission this is just a SWAG as to the problem. The TV valve is problematic and can lead to multiple replacemen sof the TTVA motor when it really isn't the issue. That valve will also mess with shift timing and actuation if is not working correctly. From the descriptions of your symptoms it is holding high TV as you slow resulting in a hard downshift.

The 48RE was the only trans offered in that year so that is a known factor. More along the lines of pressures, mods, and current functionality whne driving it what I mean. No 2 seem to be exactly the same in every truck.

I called transmission shop that did the service and they said to just drive it and they would get it in after my long vacation and they would not charge me labor but just parts to change out the sylinoid if that's what it is.

Transmission kept going into Limp mode with the code so I took the truck to a Transmission Shop and they diagnosed a bad PCM and boy was that was an expensive repair (replacement), but so far effective.
