Howdy, first post, just found this site looking into my transmission problem.

99 2500 diesel 4x4, auto, 45k miles, very little towing

seems stuck in first. . not positive, could be second, 25mph at about 2500rpm. I say could be second cause sometimes if at 25mph/2500rpm if I put manualy into first gear it does seem to downshift, not always... I put a new speed sensor in the differential 6 months ago when the ABS system and speedo acted up.

Im not that mechanical and am trying to figure if I can do anything relatively easy or just go get ripped off by some transmission shop.

Ive read that gov solenoid and sensor could be the problem, also I need to clean my Batt cables, can that cause this?

if I need a transmission shop any suggestions in N Houston would be great

Thanks

maybe pull the relay for the transmission and see if you can manually shift into other gears. it wont give ya o/d but it might be enough to get you to a shop.

Can you tell me where the relay is located and I will give it a try

Thanks

there will be a box under your hood on the drivers side that has all of your relays. just pop the top cover off and locate the relay for the transmission and pull it out. then go for a test drive.

OK I pulled the relay..... Im driving again...

But even if I manualy put it in first, it starts out in second, moving shifter from first to second makes no difference. however the manual shift to third does work and I can go up to maybe 55-60 without reving too high. What does this mean?? bad relay, or what? no manual first gear at all right now. Hopefully this all means at least my transmission is not toast and maybe just some electronics issues?

Thanks

sounds like the transducer in the transmission is gone, mine went out and it would start in second gear, no manual first gear could be found. do a search on here and it will give you the part numbers.

have you checked for any codes?to check your codes put the key in, go to the acc postion (all the way on without starting it) do this three times then it will give you your codes on the odometer. have a pen and some paper ready to write them down.

If you drive into Auto Zone, they should check them for you. The connector is to the right of the steering column under the dash, I believe. SNOKING
