I am presently in Quintana Roo (Playa Del Carmen) Mexico, and my next door neighbor has a MY2000 4x4 2500, 24 valve stock, auto. We are 1500 miles from qualified Dodge service.

His transmission has proper fluid level, normal color. No codes displayed. On acceleration in drive from a stop, truck moves normally but will not upshift from first. If he moves the shift lever to neutral, touches the throttle, then returns to drive, it will then upshift through the gears normally. He reports no slippage at shift points. Reverse is normal. There are no other apparent symptoms.

Your suggestions could help save the day!

This truck has 160,000 miles and has no previous history of failed transmission.

That's nearly a word for word description of a problem I had with a 46RE on another Dodge. It turned out that the Governor Pressure Solenoid was gummed up. It could also be the Governor Pressure Sensor, problems with either one can cause delayed or non-existent upshifts from 1st. Both are easily accessible by dropping the pan.

Speed sensor could do it also. I would think you would never get drive thoough. If you need pull the transmission Power relay. Start the truck, then go to neutal. Imediately go to first, then manually shift it up. YOu will not get OD or lockup, and you won't be able to get to first again, without going back to neutral and pausing, then pull it back down to first and go thru the procedure again. If it is strictly an electronic issue this should help. You can go from drive to second and vice versa all day. Just have to go to neutral for the first gear.
