Thinking About Upgrading My transmission. truck Now Has 160,000 Miles On Stock transmission. transmission Works Good But Seems Lazy. any Suggestions On What To Do To Stock transmission For Improved Performance Or Which Upgraded transmission/torque Convertor To Install? Truck Is 95 2500 Auto W/banks Power Pack And Diesel Dynamics 100hp Injectors.

i have a dtt trans. it was the best money i ever spent. i would ditch the stock trans and get an aftermarket one. the longer you wait to do a rebuild on your trans the more it might cost. reason being you might have to replace more hard parts the longer you wait. you should do some research on the different transmissions out there and get the one that fits your budget and the one you like the most.

Never had a lick of trouble with the full DTT trans in my 01.

I had Robert Gates rebuld my 94 with the Dunrite parts and so far it is working great too.

We must be the lucky ones as far as the 47re is concerned. Most ford and Chevy owners think the transmission has to be rebuilt every 50k. I have done some looking and had the chance to drive a DTT equiped 96. You know that feeling of an afterburner kicking in when the TC locks? Well, the truck I drove was like that all the time. I am going to get the DTT this winter. I like the new 600 and the truck but no payments is hard to give up. I figure the transmission will keep me going for a few more years.

Oh, my exhaust brake is on almost all the time and when I feel the slightest shutter under power the trans gets serviced. Needed 3 times so far.

160,000 miles on a stock transmission, especially with some engine upgrades, is a full life, IMO. Any enhancements need to include a full rebuild. Throwing new pieces at a worn transmission can cause you grief.

I installed my Goerand Bros. at 160,000. Currently have 210K and running fine. I found Dave Goerand to be great to work with and the prices are reasonable. There are, of course, a number of good companies to choose from. Call them, price them, and go from there. Good luck.

My best advice would be to forget the local transmission shops and also forget the notion of adding a valve body , shift kit or trans loc or any other quick fix bolt-on part. Except the fact that the Dodge transmission is weak and go to a specialized transmission shop like ATS, or DTT. They have the means and know how to not only rebuild your transmission, but to improve it and make it perform much better then you every thought possible. Don't forget the Torque Converter, it is probably the most important part of the rebuild. Another reality of these transmissions are they cost alot to rebuild, most charge 3-4 thousand for the complete package, so be prepared. If you do not have the funds, save till you do, the wait is well worth it.

The lower stall torque convertor will make a huge difference on your truck. It was tied with 215 hp injectors for making the biggest improvement on my truck at that power level I was at.

Also, you should look into a 3,000 RPM kit from PDR. That will make a big difference too. After the trans update, you will notice the pump defueling around 2,200 RPM. With the stock valvebody, it isn't real easy to notice because it upshifts fairly soon.
