Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) lift pump question

I had a DTT TC and Valve Body installed about 3 years ago. Since that time, I have had two transmission failures and a constant problem with "hunting". Both of my failures were third-gear clutch packs. I was starting to think the problem was the DTT stuff until my last failure when I had it repaired at a different shop. The transmission shifts better than it ever has and the "hunting" problem is totally gone. I used to live in Kerrville, Tx and had my work done by A+1 Transmission. The last time it failed, I was in Rockport, Tx and had it repaired at Love's Auto Repair. I can highly recommend Love's but I would advise you guys in the San Antonio area to steer clear of A+1. Love's also charged less than half what A+1 charged. Just a word to the wise.

By the way, Bill K was as helpful as he could be over the phone and I really appreciated his advice.

Sorry to take so long to reply. The failure was caused by a clutchpack seal. I showed the seal to two different transmission techs and both said that kind of damage had to have been done during install. It caused a pressure loss and burned the third gear clutches. This happened twice from the same shop.

You have to be careful with transmission shops. I took a Jeep Cherokee to ABC transmission in Tacoma WA when the pump self-destructed. They completely tore it down and gave me a quote of 3500 dollars. Paid less then that for the friggin car. And to think I went through with it. Man I have done some stupid things.
