OK here is the deal, was hauling a load of wood in the bed and had about three tons in a horse trailer. Went to shift into drive felt a little pop on the selector lever and then there was no resistance at all just went straight into drive some thing very weird. Took it to the transmission shop VB problem sping broke something like that but for performance and reliability wanted to turn up line pressure and adjust VB. Ok hell I dont know transmission. Got it back the 1-2 shift doesn't really shift until the trans gets warm. When it starts to shift it just kinda hangs in limbo for about 3-4 seconds then shifts slowly into gear. They said it was a downshift kinkage problem let them fix that problem still there. Now they say the only way to fix it is to rebuild it. I guess my question is does anybody in the Portland area know how to rebuild one of these?? And would that person be willing to give me a hand. Sorry for the long ass post just very upset

Seems torque convertor opinions are like beer- everyone has their personal favorites. I have been running a TCI convertor for about 6 months now. I find better response from take off, less slippage going down the road and slightly better fuel milage. I ordered mine thru

www.summitracing.com

about $350. 00. Whil you have it apart, you may want to put in a new flexplate. Broken flexplate was the reason I had to pull mine apart. Best price on the flexplate is thru Cummins.

Dan, where in the Portland area do you live? My truck is out in Beavercreek right now with my friend until i get back to claim it. When was your current transmission put in? My dad has been looking for a place to rebuild my transmission and he said he found a place in Oregon City that said they would build it above stock specs but i'm still thinking about going with a DTT transmission. What i would really like is an ATS 47-RH but i don't have $6000 to pay for that. If i can be of any assistance to you i'll help you out. I assume your talking about Portland OR.

Turning up the pressure is relatively easy with the pan off the trans, but, from the sounds of the shifting you may have some other problems. Turning the pressure up will probably hasten the demise at this point. Hughes, TCI, BD all make a converter with better torque multiplication that works well and the costs are pretty close to the same. I empathize with finding a rebuilder to work on these transmissions. Most of them are so busy making a buck of the tin can cars that they don't even want to discuss it. If you want a stock trans and a warranty most of your local parts stores, Shucks, Autozone, etc, can order you one at a fairly resonable price. Quality may be an issue so check their warranty policies. If you want some mods talk to the local racing contingent and see if you can find some independent builders that specialize in the Dodge transmissions. The 518/618 are basically a 727 with an OD on the back and most of the performance guys have figured out how to build them to last. It may cost a bit more but will be worth it. The other choice is bite the bullet and order one from DTT, ATS, or Goerand Bros. The only difference is cost which is why I am still running a wounded 518 until I dig up the $3k to get a 47RH. Good luck.

Thanks to all that replied. I will probably go with the guys that have done the work thus far they really seem to know what they are talking about, more than I anyway's. and they will apply the money I already spent treads the rebuild. I will keep you all posted
