Last Friday my truck started this , 2nd gear ok, 2-3 shift is like a neutral with some drag ( truck will hit 3500rpms), manually pull back into 2nd and run it up to a higher speed then put the lever back into D and it goes on normally 3-4-lockup.

Any ideas

Thanx Ed

No, but

Call Goerends. There is a link to their website in my profile. Let us know the results.

It almost sounds like a fluid level problem, you are checking it with the trans warm, engine idling in neutral, right?

You might also give ATS a call. 800-949-6002, talk to Don or Clint. They are good folk and know the 47RH inside and out.

And can you be more specific about the shifting sequence and problems? Is it doing this EVERY time or just on occassion? Once the TC is locked is it slipping with a lot of pedal? Or is the problem just a shifting problem?

Does it only do it when engine/trans is cold? Let us know.

Fluid is ok. Lockup dosn't slip, Does it after a mile or two so warm is the answer. Next thing I have noticed is there seems to be more noise than normal at idle -like something in the trans is rattling around, hard to tell over the Cummins . The truck is at 148k on a stock trans. At this time I think I will make all of the calls and select the right setup for My type of driving.

Hey, I build transmission's for a living. Although I only build Mitsubishi and Mazda I can tell you this, you are definitely not low on fluid otherwise it would have a problem in all gears. What is you fluid condition like? Do you change your fluid every 25,000 miles? Did you recently change it after it was already dirty?

At any rate most transmission shops at least here in the Midwest do free diagnosis.

Anyway the bad news is it sounds like your transmission is smoked. The only other option is if it uses a solenoid to achieve 3rd gear. But most transmission's use 3rd gear as failsafe which means it will only have 3rd gear if it looses power and/or if its solenoid quits working, so I go back to my original thought that your transmission is smoked. Also contrary to popular belief, if you have a transmission problem and the fluid is dirty DON'T change the fluid. This usually washes all of the junk straight into the valve body and sticks valves and then you will have a fried transmission for sure

The problem will be solved in about a week . When the new transmission gets here, and it won't be stock!

Thanx for the replies
