okay i tried a search and so much stuff came up and so many idea's i had to ask for myself

i have a 2000 with an auto and was wonder how much the transmission can take

i have a super chip 3 stage chip and was wondering if i could put it up to the 70hp to the wheel and 150hp to the wheels stage and for the torque converter to handle it everyday? Not towing just empty driving.

Thanks

you mean 70hp and 150 TQ correct?? i ran an EZ for a while, transmission started slipping at 55k i had it on there for 25k and did/do alot of heavy towing. buy the DTT TC and VB and you will be buying yourself alot of insurance.

ya i mean 70hp and 150tq. well i wouldn't tow with that setting i'd put it on safety tow which is 40hp and 70ft tq.

so you had it on for 25k b-4 it started to slip and you twoed with that setting also?

I am not familiar with the superchip but I don't think you are going to make much power with the stock injectors. Your engine is only rated at 215 hp stock. I have the same engine as you. I fried my tc/trans at 95K with 275's and a DDTT box. If you have stock injectors, you have no idea how much more driveable your truck could be. You should update your profile with rear axle ratio, 2 or 4wd. Makes a diff for people recommending things.

i'm running 3. 54's and profile does have 4X4 . well injectors is farther than i want to go with my truck. super chips says that the HP and TQ they advertise is on a stock truck with no mods done.

I'm sure the super chip will put out the HP-but towing even at 40 hp extra is a crap shoot. Determining factor is your transmission. They come from the factory with fairly large variations in pressures, efficiency, etc. If you have a good one, may last quite a while; if not so strong... not so long!

Worth trying as long as you are prepared for transmission problems when they show up! Not if they show... but when.

Even empty, I'm sure you will play with it a little bit just to see what it can do. Repeat - not if... but when!

The engine output and drivetrain were "matched" by Dodge and Cummins. Any engine power mods WILL shorten the life of the OEM single clutch torque converter and the 47RE transmission. There is no definitive answer for what is safe. Driving habits and maintenance play a big role. You say you will never tow. Never is a very long time! You haven't had any real fun in your truck until you hook 10K pounds or more to it. I ran Bosch 275's from 3K-100K(best $300 I ever spent on my truck) and added a power box (DDTT) at about 87K. Lost the trans about 94K. I figure I added about 75hp roughly. I was prepared and bought a full ATS setup and could not be happier. Doesn't matter who's trans you get as long as it is not a stock unit. They are really setup for a gasser and cannot handle the massive amounts of torque that your ISB is capable of. I added DDII injectors at 100K valve adjustment and will probably shop a turbo soon. There is so much you can do with the engine IF you have a good TC & trans that can handle the power. You have to PAY to PLAY! Enjoy your truck.

i was running on 5x5 all the time. i knew the transmission would go. i had DTT in my garage long before it went, just no sence replacing if it wasnt broken. now im all DTTed up and it bomb!! plus, i can still tow in 5x5 and never ever see 1500egts. which i love. but i think your stock transmission will be fine for a while. i also seem to have a led foot... .

well i do tow i just won't tow with the chip at the hiest setting is what i meant. i own a 30' camper only weighs 5,500 empty but still. Ya i kinda have a feeling things won't last but on the other hand i'm not looking to have a big boomer either just want abit more punch when i get on the highway and stuff thats why i haven't done anything else.

I think i'm going to run the chip at the middle setting 50hp 90lbs of tq. and when i tow put it down to 40hp and 70ft of tq. untill i need to up greade transmission and then leave it on the higest setting.

thanks guys for the help
