Just about time to

Topper - killing fuel economy?

Anyone have a recomendationfor a travel trailer cover? I just got a quote from CalMark for over $700 for a custom cover made from sunbrella fabric, w/a 6 year warranty. I see lots of others that are universal fit style covers for $150 - $350. I want to find something that will hold up to our weather, but not bust the bank...

I've never used one but have always read and heard that using a cover is not a good idea because if you live in a windy area the cover will rub and create abrasion marks on the trailer over time. A cover will hold in heat or moisture as well.

In WA I would be very concerned about moisture retention.

My advice would be to use regular washing and waxing instead or store the trailer under cover or better, inside a building.

If you have the space and your local building code laws allow, build a trailerport. I sure love mine. It's 50' x 12' x 14' high and is attached to my barn and enclosed on three sides. I can store my 5er and my truck in it, but I can't open the slideouts unless I pull the 5er out.

You can get a campimg world book they have covers that is very good all you need to know the size of trailer and who made it need to know where the door is. Also they are made for different parts of USA. ----Good luck

Thanks for the input, but indoor storage or a trailerport are not an option for me right now. I wish I could, but it is not in the cards for me at this time.

I know that a lot of folks use covers with a good result (up here in rainy Washington too). I believe that the key is to get a good quality cover that fits properly and is secured to prevent abrasion damage to the trailer (keeping it clean and waxed helps with this too).

I would still like to hear from those who use a cover, and to get their comments about specific brands, if possible. ;)

Thanks Blackbear, I have checked out their website. I might buy one from them after I do my research to find the right one...

Bought my cover for my 28ft TT from Camping World. They have a wide variety of brands. Some better than most. My cover has zippered door entrances, tie down straps that go under the trailer. It has anti abrasion finish for the inside, a white top on it to reflect heat and it is breathable. Sheds rain and snow well. Cost is determined by picking the qualities you want and size of your Trailer. I am very happy with it. Plan on building a storage shed for it using Absolute Steel building. Contact point for this company is : Galen@AbsoluteRV.com He will steer you in the right direction if you are ready to build. I researched many companies and this one is the best! You can google it if you want first. Good luck!

I had and used an Adco Aqua Shed for my old 5ver. Worked well good fit and held up to the elements well. Good tie down staps and reinforced at the critical corners. It was about $5oo for my 25 footer six years ago and still holding up. I did build an RV bay for the new 2009 32" Jazz.

If you thimk about it ,don't the rig have a roof and windows that shut and seal around the door . would you be putting the cover on during your trips,. ? My trailer is a 95 with a good roof and windows that do not leak , Never had a cover on it yet. Still looks fine just old ,After putting on and of a few times they tend to stay off , . Your dime your time ,and you know what you want . Go for it . I had boat covers they seem to last about three years at the most sun rain snow got to them . But then no roof over head. Ron Bissett
