I have a 115 gallon tank that is DOT certified so must have to be more then that? Or are you talking about just loose tanks not actual fuel systems?

When I see this topic, all I can picture is someone traveling next to a bunch of M1A1 / M1A2 Abrams tanks. Don't they run on diesel, or since it's a gas turbine engine, maybe jet fuel?

Don't laugh. I'm driving around on $2. 17 per gallon fuel! :-laf :-laf :-laf

we are planning a trip to moab. And wanted to take the bio we are going to make. so we figure the more bio we are carrying the less we have to buy. So it will be in an aux tank in the bed and possibly tank's in the trailer?

If My Memory Is Correct You Are Allowed Up To 1000lbs Of Any Hazardous Material After That You Must Have A Cdl With The Proper Endorsements For The Type Of Material. They Consider The First 1000# "materials Of Trade" I. e. Welder Carrying Oxygen And Actylin Tanks.

Now I Don't Know If The Consider Part Of The Trucks Fuel System In That 1000# Or If The 1000# Would Just Apply To What Extra You Are Carrying.

We Pull 1000 Gal Tanks On Trailers All The Time But We Have Farm Tags And Are Just Transporting Fuel To Our Equipment.

Are you talking Jerrycans? As you don't have to go through scales unless you are commercial and it's unlikely anyone will know or care I guess that you could bring along as much that you want. Unless you have some kind of aux tank to efficiently store the fuel I would think it might be kind of a hassle to fill and empty individual containers etc.

Cross country sounds cool, have fun.

Hey SledDog

You are running on $2. 17 fuel. I'll bet that if you would have put only 35 gallons in your truck and the rest of that fuel money you spent filling that big tank--put the rest of that money in your savings account--by now you would have couple extra hundred dollars in interest. You would then be driving for free. .

New in-bed fuel tank

In the next month or two I plan to add a 70 gallon tank to my 2006. The cost of fuel has nothing to do with it. When my wife and I are towing our RV we have a hard time finding fuel stops that we can pull thru. Most small towns in rural NC don't hardly sell diesel.

My understanding is That Biodiesel is not classified as a Hazardous Material... Would love to find Documentation of that..... If that is the case, then it is legally no different than hauling Water. P.

Each of my trucks has an in bed tank that is home made... . each tank is about 120 to 130 gal... our F550 has a 140 side tank and its home made... . we run these trucks through inspections all the time and have never been questioned... . however each of the trucks is dipped 2 or 3 times a year by the DOT guys looking for red diesel...

In each case we have a one way 1/2 pressure check valve and electric fuel pump on the frame rail... . when the main tank is low... . we turn on the electric pump and pump fuel into main tank through a fuel line installed in the filler neck.....

We pull the filler neck and silver solder a tee that is 3/8 hose... .

I have a 90 gallon loose tank for my rig. When I was travelling from Nevada into Arizona in 2003, I was stopped for a 'security' check at the Boulder Dam. They told me I would have to pump my diesel out of the tank and into their drums before I could cross!!!! :--) I asked if I could just pump what I could into the stock tank, which they let me do (I only had about 50 gallons in the tank). They watched me pump about 5 gallons and walked off saying I was good to go. Believe me, I was a little peeved since they didn't want to pay for the fuel they wanted to steal.

Only allowed to carry 25 "extra" gallons over what the vehicle was originally designed for. Race gas, aux fuel tanks, etc. I tell them the big tank is almost empty when I cross. :-laf :D

I doubt it, since I filled it the last of Feb. Fuel is now 25 to 35% higher, so where do you bank to get that kind of interest in 2 months?

Also I search fuel prices online to get the best price I can. Usually Flying J in Checotah Ok. Getting close to another fillup, and it will be 5 C notes plus.

P. S. That was the cash discount, plus an additional discount for having a

Flying J Rewards Member card.

M1A1/2 run off of J-P 8/5. you can run your cummins on JP at (IIRC) a 50/50 ratio with #2

you can run an Abrams on #2 with lower power output and a bit of black smoke...

JP is "dry" diesel. lower oil content and higher flash points... .

back on topic now
