Diesel Secret....Anybody seen or used this?

I had about 6 gal of used turkey frier oil "peanut oil" laying around. Strained it and dumped it into about 25 gals of diesel in the truck.



It seems to run a little better, smoother, quieter.



Dosen't smell like a deep fried tukey... Definetley dosen't smell like diesel...
 
A big issue with straight oil is the glycerine and the effects it has on the system. In researching this a lot of the last 2 weeks, biodiesel removes this with the methanol and the lye reactions. Straight oil burners just burn the glycerine it and many believe that is troublesome beyond the basic viscosity issues. I don't know for sure but I think at your ratio you might be pushing it. I'd do like Bob Wagner suggests and pay attention to the fuel filter after this batch of "home brew... "
 
I have had other call from people tossing alot of othe "stuff" into there tanks.



some have given me the shivers :-laf and that is no joke :(
 
What about guys who run diesel on startup and shutdown then WVO during driving? I wonder if they have clogging problems...

Just wanted to see how the truck would react. I plan on running this down to 1/4 tank and then running 2 full tanks of just diesel. I'll then pull the filter and see how it looks.



Is there a difference if the oil is fresh compared to being used? Would a few heat cycles of the deep fryer make the oil any different?
 
If the peanut oil was filtered at all. . your oil filter will be fine. The problems come with long term use and high % of WVO. I haven't gone any further then about 10% WVO to D2. And this was in high summer temps.

If you're running a high percentage of used oil in the winter... . you might plug a filter real fast. I'm more suspect of the VP44 holding up trying to pump thick fuels. The thing is a little fragile as is so cold oil on a cold day might just do it in.

Anyway, glad to see we now have the "Alt Fuels" forum. Should be some interesting threads here now that fuel prices have gone through the roof.

I have 4 gals of canola from Monday's turkey fry that I've been contemplating what to do with. I certainly don't want to throw it out in the trash, nor do I want to go thru the effort of taking it to some recycling place. If it can be safely burned with no ill effects, I would consider dumping in a half gallon or 1 gal per tankful. I just haven't heard from many 3rd gen owners that have done this. Mhenon you mentioned in another thread about putting some in an 05... how has that worked out?

It ran fine in the '05 Cummins at about 10%. Keep in mind we were in southern Texas and the temps were in the 70's. In cold weather I would be reluctant to use too much. Problem is... I don't know how much is too much!!

I wish I had an old beater Mercedes diesel to experiment with. Then it would be kinda fun to see how much crap you could run through the engine and keep going. When it comes to the Dodge... well... .

OK, just got a lead on some used oil, it's mine. They just throw it out, my jaw hit the floor when they told me. And it is used to fry "FISH"!!!!!!
 
I wouldn't make a regular thing of running wvo in 3rd gens... much better to convert it to biodiesel. I was just trying to figure out how to best dispose of the turkey fryer oil. Sounds like I'll slowly burn it off in my tank, maybe a half gal per tank.

I have figured out that I gained 2. 3 miles per gallon on this tank. 5 gallons of peanut oil to about 25 / 27 gallons of diesel...
 
My experience with wvo, I am in the process of building a unit to make bio diesel . I have collected about 80 gallons of wvo which is used soybean oil. If you pour a small amount into a shallow dish and let the oil evaporate you will find the remaining stuff ie. glicerine, a thick sticky glob that would pass for glue. I put some of this wvo before being processed in a mitsi tractor at about 33%. The tractor ran fine but was a little hard to start. I will not do this again after seeing the glicerine glob. All will now be processed before use .
 
I have read many times about clogging fuel filters from using wvo but most of the time its when you first start using it. The oil picks up all the crud in your tank which clogs the filter. After that they don't seem to clog as bad. If I was trying it for the first time I would carry a spare fuel filter or two(I do anyway).

I read somewhere on the net that 20% SVO/WVO blended with #2 is equal in viscosity to b100.



I've run up to 50% blend in my diesel tank. Truck didn't like it on start up.



If you have a road trip lined up just put the 4 gallons in with a full tank and use it all up while the truck is warm and working.



Otherwise I'd mix it in at a 5-10% ratio
