Picked up my 600 from Tom Chaney in St Louis yesterday. Just got back to North Carolina-800 miles one way from St. Louis. The overhead showed a 16. 1 mpg average for the trip. IMO, that's not bad for the first 800 miles on the truck! I mixed up the rpm's for the first 100-150 miles. Drove 45 mph for 20 miles then up to 50 mph for 20 miles, then to 55 and 60 mph. Kept it under 2000 rpms for the first 100 miles. After that I cruised at 70 and would bump it down to 65 or 60 trying to varying the speeds for a while. By the time I hit the Great Smokey mountains, she had over 500 miles on her and was ready to roll up some hills. Never had one problem with vibrations at any speed or any rear end noise. All in all, I think I did as good as possible to try and break her in like recommended. The truck now has 825 miles on it and I'm going to hook up my trailer with 2-3000 lbs on it and drive a couple hundred miles now to really work the Cummins in. All in all, the trip home was great, stayed in Knoxville overnight, and I can't say enough good things about Tom Chaney. Great guy with exceptional knowledge. He comes highly recommended. Thanks for the service your provide us Tom. BTW, Tom's SO Cummins truck feels very strong on the 4/4 TST setting. He picked me up at the airport in it:) I was very impressed to say the least! Good luck to you Tom and thanks again!

I'll get the pics to you of the Grand National behind the new 600 ASAP!

Glad you like the new truck, I did the same thing about 3 weeks ago. Picked uu the truck from Tom Chaney April 14th. Drove it to Santa fe New Mexico and picked up a new Sunnybrook 33' Travel trailer. Drove it to San Diego will no problems. Have over 2800 miles on the truck with aprox 1,000 towing. Avg mileage for the entire 2800 miles was 12mpg, however , we were bucking a head wind of 25-25 per hour. Last trip of 326 miles without trailer did 18. 3mpg. Tom did a great job for me as well. By the way, what is the year of your Grand National?? Mine is an 1986!!!

I have an 1987 Buick Grand National. Engine and transmission is out right now being totally built. Engine should put out approx. 550 hp @ 24 psi of boost with my new GT67 turbo. That turbo will move some air. Of course I had to get my CTD 600 in black to match the GN:) Let me know if you have any other questions. BTW, the GN runs on 104 unleaded octane at all times:D :--)

Brad

MY GN is fixed up just a bit. T-49 trubo, blue injectors, Red Armstrong chip, shift kit, K&N filter, runs in the low 13. However, the new 600 is lt almond, got one black vehicle, did not think I needed another!! Do you belong to the BGNRA? I wonder how many of us have a 600 and GN??

I don't belong to the BGNRA, but I frequent many of the GN sites and participate in lots of gatherings around my area. My new setup is- stock 109 block, . 030 TRW pistons, Girdled with stock main caps, ported and polished stock heads, GT67 turbo, PTE front mount intercooler, 70mm TB, 212/212 roller cam, 72#/hr injectors, Trans plus, LS1 3. 5 inch maf, Extender Xtreme chip, Wideband o2, street/strip transmission with all billet parts, 3400 stall converter, HR parts upper and lower trailing arms, air bags, Directscan. Can't wait to get it to the track. Hoping for mid-high 10's if I can get traction. I would be interested in knowing how many CTD owners also own a Buick turbo regal. I'll keep you posted. Thanks

Robert, do you plan on any aftermarket upgrades? or just keeping her stock for now?

Brad

Stock for now... reasons:

1. no money

2. Stock ain't weak

3. Got truck to keep from having to work on all the time (previous truck was 1970 Ford F250-drove 1993 Civic for reliability/economy because 1970 Ford 5. 9 = 10 MPG unloaded+premium gas.

4. Risk of blowing something up that would be warranty otherwise.

I like reading about all the bombs, but at this point I not ready to jump in...
